Forest Therapy and Therapeutic Art Mini Retreat

Join us for a special two part therapeutic session in the garden to deeply relax and reconnect with yourself and nature.

We will start in the morning with a Guided Forest Therapy Session led by Shawna Hartung from 10:30-12:00, then after a half hour break, embark upon a therapeutic art session with Andrea Cornwell from 12:30-1:30. These sessions are separately led and intended to coordinate with each other, so we are offering it as a whole session with two parts.

We recommend bringing lunch for your half hour break between the morning session and the afternoon session.

This experience offers a welcoming space to create without judgment or expectation. Through art, participants will be invited to explore their inner landscape alongside the landscape of the garden, discovering new insights into themselves, the environment, and the meaningful connections between the two.

Materials will include found natural objects from the garden, as well as paper, paint sticks, and pastels. No artistic experience is necessary.

About the Guest Facilitators:

Andrea Cornwell is a social worker in the Portland area who specializes in community-based programming and the integration of the arts into healing and connection. She facilitates programs at Bridge Meadows, a local intergenerational housing community, where she uses creative approaches to foster belonging, self-exploration, and community building. Andrea is passionate about using art as a tool for reflection, growth, and connection. She also finds inspiration in nature and believes the natural world offers endless opportunities for creativity, curiosity, and renewal.

Shawna Hartung is a Certified Nature and Forest Therapy Guide through the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy (ANFT). Her approach is trauma-informed and grounded in creating psychologically safe, welcoming spaces where people can slow down, reconnect, and experience a sense of belonging with the more-than-human world. Shawna brings over 20 years of experience in environmental education, community programming, and nonprofit leadership. She is passionate about fostering meaningful connection—to nature, to community, and to ourselves—and believes time outdoors can support restoration, resilience, and well-being for people of all backgrounds.
